Make Music Day in their own words: “Make Music Day is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21st. Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 800 cities in 120 countries. Make Music is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — pours onto streets, parks, plazas, and porches to share their music with friends, neighbors, and strangers.”
With Orgelkids, you can make sure the King of Instruments
is part of the joyful noise of Make Music Day!
This example of guerrilla outreach demonstrates how Orgelkids empowers organists to get out into the streets to engage the public with their instrument.
In 2017 Make Music Day fell on a Wednesday, Market Day in our town. We set Orgelkids up in the streets among the farmers’ wares, inviting the public to play, while also arranging with local organists to visit armed with their two-octave repertoire. The ease and portability of Orgelkids makes it a delight to deploy.
However, you do not need Orgelkids to take part in Make Music Day. We encourage YOU to record a bit of music and post it online on June 21 every year, so that the King of Instruments is part of the joyful noise, even if only virtually. In 2016, in the midst of our startup funds raising, Orgelkids USA launched a virtual busking campaign on social media on Make Music Day. Several supporters contributed their music to the cause, recording their music and sharing it on social media along with a link to our virtual busker’s hat. Carolyn Craig, one of AGO’s Rising Stars, served as our headliner busker.
